Garmin + Meryus
Garmin Connect is a great data store and a mediocre social app. The Connect challenges feature is buried, clunky, and only works with other Garmin users. Meryus sits next to it: connect once and every activity, step count, sleep score, HRV, and stress reading feeds into challenges with a friendlier UI, and your non-Garmin friends can join too.
Why Meryus, not Connect groups
- Better UI. A clean real-time chart instead of a buried tab.
- Any metric. Steps, sleep, HRV, stress, weight, or anything custom.
- No ecosystem lock-in. Friends on Strava or with no wearable can still join.
- Custom challenge formats. Daily targets, fixed totals, or open-ended habits.
- Private by default. Join code only, no public feed.
How the sync works
- Sign in to Meryus and tap "Connect Garmin" in your profile.
- Approve the Garmin OAuth permissions (PKCE flow, no password leaves Garmin).
- Meryus registers webhooks for activities, dailies, sleep, HRV, and stress.
- New data shows up in your active challenges within minutes of syncing your watch.
What syncs
- Activities: runs, rides, walks, swims, hikes
- Daily steps
- Sleep duration (decimal hours)
- HRV (heart rate variability)
- Resting heart rate
- Stress score
- Body battery
Challenges Garmin natively can't run
- "10,000 steps every day for a month" with a mixed Garmin/Strava/no-wearable group
- "Average 7+ hours of sleep this month"
- "Keep HRV above your baseline"
- "Lower resting heart rate by 5 bpm in 90 days"
- "Custom: stretching minutes per week"
